Description
The ancient custom of giving a lovespoon in Wales dates back to the 17th century. These ornately carved spoons were traditionally made by men for their loved ones. They were often given as a pre-courting present and may even have been offered as a gift to signify their engagement.
The symbols carved on to the spoon all have a particular meaning.
This one has a dragon, which is the symbol of Wales as well as signifying strength and protection. It also has the two hearts which represent love twisting down to become one in the bowl of the spoon.
Lovespoons are popular all over the world and are still given as a lasting token of affection and make a unique wedding, birthday or anniversary present as well as being a great souvenir of Wales.
